INTERVIEW: Morecambe electrician firm celebrates its 10th birthday

Matt Catterall from MJ Catterall

Torrisholme electricians MJ Catterall are celebrating their 10th birthday and we've been speaking to owner Matt Catterall about the business and his support of local sport.

Matt started the business 10 years ago, initially doing domestic jobs from out of his van and a garden shed.

His reputation grew as he took on more commercial jobs and today MJ Catterall employs 31 staff from its base on Lancaster Road in Torrisholme.

The firm is well-known for supporting local sport, including Morecambe FC, Vale of Lune Rugby Club and Heysham Cricket Club, and the Morecambe and Lancaster boxing scene.

Matt himself is a licensed boxing trainer and cornerman, who works with many of the town's top professionals and was recently out in Saudi Arabia working on the undisputed world heavyweight title show with Tyson Fury and Isaac Lowe.

Matt went to Torrisholme Primary School and Morecambe High and then Lancaster and Morecambe College, serving his modern apprenticeship as an electrician.

The MJ Catterall office is located in the former John Martin newsagent (see below) at 320-322 Lancaster Road.

Matt's wife Elle and son Louis are also involved in the company.

"I think we're so successful because we care about every single client," said Matt.

"You have to make sure that your prices are competitive and that you employ good staff. That's the key to our business. I'm very fortunate that we've got a very good team."

Here is Matt pictured with managing director Simon Foster.

The company provides electricians for domestic, commercial and industrial sectors, everything from small one off jobs through to large projects, as well as fire and security alarms, CCTV, EV and solar Installations.
