End of an era as Carnforth high street takeaway shuts

Sizzle In in Carnforth

A popular high street takeaway in Carnforth has closed its doors after decades of serving the people of the town.

Sizzle In on Market Street - known for its famous clock above the shop - shut last weekend.

Fiona Sowerby from the takeaway posted on social media that the closure was due to "unforeseen circumstances and the constant rise in bills and stock".

She said the owner "would like to take this opportunity to thank all the customers he has had over the last 35 years for their support in choosing to purchase from his takeaway".

Sizzle In was due to open for a final time last Sunday evening but Fiona posted that it would not "as we have minimal stock left".

"Again all of us would like to thank you for your support over the years," she said.

"We are all deeply saddened that it's had to come to an end and we apologise to those customers that didn't get their last takeaway from us."

Many customers posted their well-wishes and disappointment at news of the closure.

Phil said it was an "end of an era for Carnforth....very sad".

Iain said: "When we visited Carnforth when my mother was in hospital, it was one of our takeaways of choice. It's a sign of the times and such a shame!"

And Dan said: "Really sad, going to miss them decent sized kebabs."

Sohrab Moghaddam, the shop owner, told Beyond Radio he was "ever grateful to the people of Carnforth for supporting me during the past 35 years".
