Lancaster band Hiroshima Twinkie to launch new 'Best of' album at city venue

Lancaster folk-rock band Hiroshima Twinkie will hold a launch for their new 'Best of...' compilation album at the Kanteena.

The album is entitled 'Now That’s What I Call Hiroshima Twinkie' and features the cream of the four-piece's catchy original songs.

The free launch will be held at the Lancaster venue on Saturday June 22 between 7pm and 9pm.

The band (whose name comes from an episode of Father Ted) has been entertaining crowds in Lancaster, the North West and at many festivals over the years.

Featuring Lancaster musicians Mike Bannon, Chris Barlow, Dave Beale and Trev Wagstaff, they describe themselves as "storming harmonic country-tinged folk rock".

"This is a really exciting opportunity to be able to take stock of the music we have created since we started on this journey and we’re really proud of the songs we’ve put together for this release," said Chris, lead singer and lyricist.

"It was a difficult choice though as our five albums contain 64 original compositions, so we’ve chosen at least two from each album and have gone with what seem to be the fan favourites when we play live."

The album, available to down load and purchase on CD from June 22 with an edited vinyl version in the pipeline for pre-order and future purchase, features 17 tracks written and recorded by the band since they were established from the ashes of Lancaster bands Mostly Hums and Dorothy in 2016.

It offers popular choices from their five albums released on Woodshed Records including Dogs and Swans, Blue Sky Morning, Lune Valley Ramble, Duvet Day and Lonesome George is Dead, as well as the inclusion of a taster song ‘The Chills’ from their forthcoming sixth album scheduled for release in Summer 2025.

"We’re extra thrilled to have been able to make this a Music with the Mayor event and to be able to help raise awareness of the good work the Citizen’s Advice team do for people in the area," said Mike Bannon, bass player.
