A new parking system for patients, visitors and staff at a medical centre in Heysham is set to begin.

The new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system at Heysham Primary Care Centre is set to go live this Monday, April 20, Bay Medical Group has announced.

All patients, on every visit, must enter their vehicle registration at the kiosks in the building, and will receive free parking for two hours.

Vehicles not registered will receive a parking charge notice by the ANPR company operating the system.

"This system is simply to help keep parking spaces available for patients using the centre," said a post on the Bay Medical Group Facebook page.

"What you need to do when you visit:

"Enter your vehicle registration into one of the parking kiosks inside the building.

"Kiosks are located on both the ground floor and first floor.

"You’ll need to register your vehicle if you are: Attending an appointment; Using any onsite service; Visiting the pharmacy; Working on site.

"Thank you for helping us keep spaces available for everyone who needs them."

Bay Medical Group said that Sundays will be an exception for a trial period of three months, so local community groups and church can use the car park free of charge without having to input their registrations.

ANPR is a technology that uses optical character recognition on images to read vehicle registration plates.

Heysham Primary Care Centre is based on Middleton Way, Heysham. It is one of several medical centres run by Bay Medical Group in the Morecambe and Heysham area.
