Emergency services were called after a person fell down steps near to the Stone Jetty on Morecambe Promenade.

The call to the Morecambe RNLI came at 4.17pm on Friday.

It was one of three call-outs for the town's volunteer lifeboat team this weekend.

"Our volunteers arrived on scene and carried out a shore based casualty care assessment," said a Morecambe RNLI spokesperson.

"Using their extensive casualty care skills, they kept the casualty comfortable until the ambulance service arrived.

"We would like to wish the casualty a speedy recovery."

The crew was also called to service on Saturday at 12.18am but was stood down shortly afterwards.

Then later that day, at 3.57pm, the lifeboat team was called to a report of two persons and a horse stuck in the mud near to Middleton sands.

"The inshore rescue lifeboat and hovercraft both launched swiftly, on arrival the casualties and horse had been able to self rescue," said the RNLI spokesperson.

"Our volunteers supported Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service to escort the casualties and horse back to the safety of the shore."

The RNLI has issued some safety advice as follows:

  • Be wary of all edges around the sea and waterside. Slips and falls happen in all locations; it is not just high cliff edges that are a risk.
  • Always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back.
  • Take care when walking in dark and slippery conditions.
  • Always take a means of calling for help.
  • Always check the weather and tides. Getting cut off by the tide is a common cause of lifeboat launches.
