
Four months of roadworks to reduce flood risk on the M6 between Lancaster and Kendal are under way.
National Highways are carrying our work to improve safety barriers and drainage on the motorway.
They will be repairing the drainage system, clearing blockages and improving the southbound roadside verge.
A series of daytime and overnight lane closures between south of junction 34 (Halton) and junction 36 (Crooklands) began on Monday.
A National Highways spokesperson said the closures will be carried out in phases to reduce disruption.
The motorway will be open at all times but at a reduced capacity.
The work is being carried out as follows:
Phase 1 - February 24-March 29
M6 junction just south of 34 to junction 35 (Carnforth)
Overnight lane closures in both directions.
Phase 2 - March 31-May 24
Junction 35 to 36 daytime and overnight lane closures:
- Monday March 31 to Saturday April 5 - overnight (8pm to 6am) in both directions
- Monday April 7 to Saturday April 26 - 8am to 6pm southbound lane one (of three) closure
- Monday April 28 to Wednesday May 28– 8am to 6pm northbound lane one (of three) closure
Sunday June 8
M6 junction 34 southbound entry slip road.
Overnight closure (8pm to 6am).
Phase 3 April 28-July 2
M6 junction 35 and 34.
24-hour southbound lane one (of three) closure and 50mph speed limit.
Motorists are being asked to follow the clearly signed diversion during the closure.
"Our work may cause small delays," said a National Highways spokesperson.
"Please allow extra time to complete your journeys and check travel conditions before setting off. We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.
