Fundraiser launched for family of young Morecambe boxer who lost his life in HGV collision

A fundraiser has been launched for the family of a young boxer who lost his life in a road traffic collision in Morecambe over the Easter weekend.

Leo Mountain died after being hit by an HGV on the Bay Gateway in the early hours of Sunday (April 20).

18-year-old Leo was a skilled and popular amateur boxer at the Coastal boxing club in the town.

He regularly boxed at their shows at Red Rose Community Centre on West End Road, and last September, became North West regional champion.

Steve Tallo-Brady, head coach at Tameside Elite Boxing Academy is now raising funds for Leo’s family.

Steve said: “He was one of the loveliest politest boxers from the loveliest families that you would be ever likely to meet.

“Let us the amateur boxing world in our selfless hour of need raise as much money as we can to take the burden off his poor lost family and also his gym. I've set the amount at £5000, but I’d like to get much higher.

“I have my own two community boxing academies so I've always known first-hand what these kids mean to us all.

“So please donate generously either to this fundraiser, directly to Coastal ABC in Morecambe or on our weekend spar day on Saturday April 26 at Tameside Elite Boxing Academy in memory of this absolutely lovely and respectable young man.”

Thousands of pounds has already been donated. You can find out more and add your donation here

The club posted a tribute to him, saying he "brought laughter and light to every room".

"Leo was a fantastic young man, an absolute credit to himself and his family.

"Every boxer, coach and supporter had nothing but love for Leo, he was one of those people you couldn't help but love.

"He had an infectious personality, brought laughter and light to every room.
know he, his family and the club took great pride in.

"He was a very talented boxer, had a great attitude and loved to box. Leo had a champion's heart in and out the ring.

"To think his cheeky smile, his jokes and his presence won't be seen any longer is just unthinkable. He had so much to offer this world, his journey had only just started.

"Leo, you are a son, grandson, brother, friend, gentleman, fighter and a boxer. You're respected by many, loved by many and....a CHAMPION. Forever in our hearts and minds, you'll always be missed.

"All the club's thoughts are with Leo's family, we can't imagine what they're going through."
