GENERAL ELECTION: Candidates officially announced for Lancaster and Morecambe seats

The full lists of candidates for the Lancaster and Wyre and Morecambe and Lunesdale seats in the general election have been officially announced.

The general election will take place on July 4 and the deadline for candidates was yesterday (June 7).

 

The candidates in Lancaster and Wyre are:

Nigel Alderson (Reform UK)

Peter Gordon Cartridge (Conservative Party)

Jack Lenox (Green Party)

Matt Severn (Liberal Democrats)

Cat Smith (Labour Party)

 

The candidates in Morecambe and Lunesdale are:

Lizzi Collinge (Labour Party)

Gina Dowding (Green Party)

Peter Jackson (Liberal Democrats)

David Thomas Morris (Conservative Party)

Barry Michael Parsons (Reform UK)

 

Following a shake-up of electoral boundaries in 2023, the former Lancaster and Fleetwood constituency, held by Labour's Cat Smith since 2015, was scrapped and a new Lancaster and Wyre constituency created.

The constituency will include Garstang, Preesall, Great Eccleston, Hambleton and Stalmine, Calder, Wyresdale and Brock with Catterall, as well as the Lancaster areas of Bulk, Castle, Ellel, John O'Gaunt, Marsh, Skerton West and East, Scotforth West and East, and the University and Scotforth Rural.

The reshaped Morecambe and Lunesdale constituency, held by the Conservatives' David Morris since 2010, will now include Arnside and Milnthorpe, Burton and Crooklands, Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale, as well as Bare, Bolton and Slyne, Carnforth and Millhead, Halton-with-Aughton, Harbour, Heysham North, Central and South, Kellet, Lower Lune Valley, Overton, Poulton, Silverdale, Torrisholme, Upper Lune Valley, Warton and Westgate.

 

There will also be a by-election in University Ward for Lancaster City Council on July 4.

The candidates are:

Maria Holly Deery (Green Party)

Matthew Joseph Maxwell-Scott (Conservative Party)

Anya-Veronica Wilkinson-Leishman (Green Party)

Thomas Willis (Liberal Democrats)
