You can have your say on the future of a popular green space in Lancaster at a community event tomorrow (July 16).
A community consultation event is taking place on Coronation Field, Willow Lane, Lancaster, with updates on plans for Freeman's Wood.
The Friends of Freeman's Wood are looking to buy the 27-acre woodland for the whole community.
The event takes place from 2pm to 5pm, with guided walks available around the wood starting at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.
The Friends would like people to come to tell them how they think the woodland should be managed in future, and what changes or improvements they would like to see.
There will also be an update on fundraising for the community buy-out of Freeman's Wood. In less than a month more than £42,000 in donations has been received, from more than 370 individuals, local businesses and a charitable foundation. The target is £60,000.For more details see here.
People are invited to become a square-holder of Freeman's Wood. For every £5 that you donate, you'll be allocated a unique 3m x 3m square in Freeman's Wood. The site now commonly referred to as Freeman’s Wood adjoins what used to be part of a linoleum factory, and is now Lune Industrial Estate.
This plot of land is also bordered by a cycle path from the end of St George’s Quay (New Quay Road), the footpath leading from Willow Lane to the river, Willow Lane itself, and a playing field (Coronation Field).
The Friends managed to save the wood from development by successfully applying for Town Green status, and are now seeking to raise £60,000 to buy it from its owner, who is based overseas.
