Morecambe Football Club has issued a statement after fans raised concerns about the conduct of some of the club's stewards at the weekend.
Supporters took to social media following the Shrimps’ defeat to Chesterfield at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, after it appeared that some fans had balloons confiscated and destroyed, while it was alleged by others that ‘patting down’ searches were being carried out on people under 16.
Co-chairman Rod Taylor took to social media himself to address some of the concerns over the weekend, confirming that the board of directors did not instruct stewards and supervisors to search under-16s and remove balloons, and that an investigation into the alleged issues would be carried out.
Today, (October 28), a spokesperson for the club said the matters would be looked into fully, and encouraged anyone with information to contact them.
A statement said: ‘’Morecambe Football Club has received a number of concerns about several incidents that reportedly took place at the club's game against Chesterfield at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium on Saturday.
‘’The club's board of directors is aware of the concerns and has today instructed the HR & Safeguarding team to investigate these matters fully.
‘’If you have any information or concerns related to Saturday's game, please report them directly to our safeguarding team at shrimpsafe@morecambefc.com.
‘’As a board of directors, we are fully committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all fans, players and staff, and your input will help us uphold the high standards of safety and integrity we value at Morecambe FC.
‘’Our fans are at the heart of everything we do at the club, and we promise we will act on any findings to ensure supporters have the best experience possible."
