A Morecambe man is asking for help as he prepares to drive to Eastern Europe to assist with the Ukrainian relief effort.
Mark Swindlehurst is looking for donations so he and his work colleagues can bulk-buy vital everyday items for the people of Ukraine.
Mark, who works for the Wickes DIY and home improvement chain, and his colleagues will then set off on May 6 to take the items direct to Ukrainian people who are staying in the village of Zamosc, Poland.
The vehicles have been sourced and funded, so now the aim is to raise money to buy nappies, women's products, children's medicine and food - things we take for granted but are in short supply for the Ukrainian people.
LISTEN NOW to Mark Swindlehurst talking about his mission to help the people of Ukraine:
"There were heartbreaking scenes that we were seeing on the television and we thought 'how could we help?'" said Mark, who also works as the match day announcer at Morecambe Football Club.
"I'm lucky I work with some brilliant colleagues and now there are seven of us going over there; some from Liverpool, some from Northampton.
"There are three vehicles and there could be a fourth, and we are filling them with stuff that people need.
"We got in touch with the British Red Cross and asked them what people need over there.
"They need babies' nappies, medicine, female products that are not easy to get in bulk over there.
"The crowdfunding means we can buy it in bulk, take it over and put it in people's hands.
"People have been so brilliant and so generous."
