A series of partial and full overnight closures of a major road near Carnforth will take place next week.
Improvement works have been undertaken on the A6070, which links the motorway to the A6 at M6 junction 35, since April 2024, with the road now being closed for the resurfacing of the carriageway.
The closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am from next Monday, February 17, to Saturday, February 22.
This is to allow the road to be resurfaced as the final stage of a major project to bring it up to standard and make sure it meets future transport needs after 60 years in service.
On Monday February 17 and Tuesday February 18 the A6070 will be closed for westbound traffic heading towards Carnforth from the M6. Eastbound traffic will be unaffected.
On Wednesday February 19 and Thursday February 20 the A6070 will be fully closed.
On Friday February 21 and Saturday February 22 the A6070 will be closed for eastbound traffic heading towards the M6 from Carnforth. Westbound traffic will be unaffected.
Signed diversions will be in place.
Lancashire County Council received £9.245m from the Department for Transport to carry out the improvements.
The A6070 was previously known as the A601(M), however following approval from the Secretary of State for Transport the 'special status' of the route was removed and it is no longer a motorway.
Originally the northern limit of the M6, the road became the A601(M) when the motorway was extended in the 1960’s. After more than 60 years in service this major maintenance scheme is bringing the road up to standard and make sure it meets future transport needs.
