North Lancashire heroes recognised with MBEs in Queens Birthday Honours

North Lancashire's unsung heroes have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

As the Platinum Jubilee celebrations get underway, four local people have been named recipients of the MBE.

There’s an MBE for Julia Brothwell from Morecambe.

Julia has recently returned from supporting people fleeing their homes in Ukraine, and is recognised for services to international aid, with her programme management work as part of Global Surge in the British Red Cross.

There’s an MBE for Janet Williams from Pilling, for services to people with disabilities.

She’s the Co-founder of the Independent Fetal Anti-Convulsant Trust, who help people whose disabilities were caused as a result of their mother taking an anti-convulsant drug during pregnancy.

This work includes successfully campaigning for the rules to be changed for the prescribing of the anti-epilepsy drug Sodium Valproate in women of child bearing age.

Carnforth’s Eileen Kelly-Mcgregor, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Army Widows Association, is awarded the MBE for voluntary service to Bereaved Families.

Leslie Micklethwaite from Grange-over-Sands receives the MBE voluntary and charitable services to the community in North Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Leslie is recognised for his work in turning around the fortunes of the Lakeland Motor Museum in Backbarrow, which includes a tribute to Morecambe’s TT legend, John McGuinness.
