Owners of a holiday park near Heysham has applied for permission for a revamp of the site including a facelift for a pub.
Middleton Holiday Park on Carr Lane, Middleton, has put in an application to Lancaster City Council for a revamp.
Aside from 11 new glamping pods there would also be a centralised barbeque and seating area, and 11 car parking spaces, if permission is granted.
Middleton Holiday Park currently has around 150 static caravans, is home to The Middleton pub and the separate Middleton Towers touring caravan and camping site. Improvements would be made to the pub as part of the plans.
The full planning application is for "reconfiguration of existing holiday park including alterations to site access, erection of new reception building, alterations to parking areas, relocation of sales area and erection of a new maintenance building, extensions and alterations to existing public house/flat comprising of demolition of existing lean to extension, construction of a canopy, insertion of door openings, creation of balcony area, construction of dormer extensions, construction of external steps and erection of 11 glamping pods in existing touring caravan area".
A report submitted with the plans by Adams Planning and Development, on behalf of The Middleton Leisure Group Ltd, says: "Middleton Holiday Park is a well-established holiday park that accommodates approximately 150 static caravans, a pub that is open to the general public, a separate Middleton Towers touring caravan and camping site that lies at the northern end of the site and a main reception that currently lies on the eastern side of both the pub and the main entrance to the site.
"The appeal and appearance of site frontage and main entrance will be improved through the introduction of a public car park and enhanced soft landscaping to the front of the pub, an improved outdoor seating area and a children’s playground that will be open to both visiting members of the public and existing holiday park customers.
"The main access to the holiday park will be improved through the introduction of a secure gated access that is set back a good distance from the adopted highway, to afford a large pull in area to the front of the gated entrance, that will enable all customers to wait for access to the holiday park off the adopted highway. The existing sales area on the western side of the main access will be replaced with a relocated reception area that is positioned in a more logical place at the front of the holiday park and directly adjacent to the main entrance, with a dedicated car parking to the front.
"The on-site shop and servicing/maintenance building will remain in the same location as existing that is within easy access of both the existing holiday park and the glamping pods on the Middleton Towers campsite area. The area between the public house and glamping site will accommodate a reconfigured parking and bin storage area in a well screened area of the site.
"The existing ‘Middleton Towers’ tent and touring caravan site will be redeveloped to provide 11 ‘glamping pods’ with a centralised barbeque and seating area, 11 car parking spaces (including 1 no. EV charging points) and significant enhanced planting including hedgerows, shrubs and trees that will screen inter-visibility between the glamping pods.
"The pub’s dated appearance will be significantly improved through minor design alterations to the pub’s facades and improved material treatments to give this important landmark building a lift and improve the sense of arrival for visitors and existing customers of Middleton Holiday Park.
"The caravan sales area will be relocated from the existing site at the front of the holiday park to a proposed secure sales compound that will sit on the eastern side and directly adjacent to the proposed main office that will re-utiise the existing storage, former stables building.
"The refurbished storage building will incorporate offices, a meeting room and staff kitchen area and toilets to provide an improved working environment for the Middleton Park employees. The plans also include dedicated staff and visitor parking directly adjacent to the new offices and relocated sales area."
The full planning application is available to view at the Lancaster City Council website.
The council will make a decision on planning permission in due course.
