Shrimps sign Port Vale midfielder

The Shrimps have secured the signing of midfielder Jake Taylor on a two-year deal from fellow Sky Bet League One side Port Vale for an undisclosed fee.

Taylor, who won promotion via the Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs last season with the Valiants, has moved to join up with Derek Adams’ squad immediately.

The 23-year-old completed his first training session with the Shrimps on Friday, and will be part of the team that will travel to Macclesfield FC on Saturday, in the Club’s second pre-season friendly.

Born and raised in Manchester, Taylor began his youth career with the red side of the City, before leaving for Nottingham Forest’s academy in 2015.

The midfielder never managed to break into the first-team at the City Ground, and subsequently moved to Port Vale on a season-long loan on 2019, where he scored seven goals in 25 games in all competitions.

A trip to Glanford Park came and went with a season-long loan to Scunthorpe United before signing permanently with the Valiants in January 2021.

After signing for the Shrimps, Taylor said: “I am really pleased to get the deal done, it has been brewing for a long time but I am delighted to get it over the line.

“It has been a stressful few weeks, when I first heard about the transfer it was something that I was really interested in, there were a lot of twists and turns but, we got there in the end.

“I have got a month now to get in and get to know everyone at the Club, before the start of the season, so it was vital that I got in as soon as possible.

“The manager expressed his interest, he rates me as a player which was apparent from the conversations we have in the past, he has tried sign me before as well, so as a player that is really nice to know.

“I just wanted to go to a Club where I felt wanted, play regularly and express myself. You want the manager’s belief and the manager has shown that in me by bringing me here.

“As a player you want to play at the highest level possible, it is the unknown for me, it is a step up but hopefully, as a team and individually, we can have a good season.”
