
Planned roadworks along the A590 could add travel delays in October
The A590 is a trunk road in southern Cumbria, in the north-west of England. It connects the M6 (from junction 36) with the Furness peninsula, and passes through the towns of Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness.
National Highways (formerly Highways England) are investing approximately £8 million over the next 12 months, maintaining journeys and safety for the thousands of drivers who use the A590 every day.
Along the full length of the A590 they will be carrying out a number of planned renewal schemes. These are essential in maintaining the network, keeping road users safe and supporting the movement of essential supplies and services.
As part of the works there will be a full road closure of the A590 from Newby Bridge Roundabout to Brettagh Hold Roundabout which will see a 13 mile diversion in place. Work is due to start from 5 October for around five weeks. This will take place between the hours of 8pm and 6am and work will be carried out in phases, the table below shows the detail for each phase:
