Two of the brothers in Morecambe's fighting Birchall family looked impressive as they made their professional boxing debuts.

Leighton and William Birchall both scored second round stoppage wins at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

Fighting on the undercard of Nick Ball's world title defence against TJ Doheny, Leighton and William joined their brother Nelson in the pro ranks - and all three look to have a bright future.

Leighton dominated Laszlo Bernath from Hungary, looking sharp and landing vicious punches from the southpaw stance.

In the first round, the teenager got through with a big left hand, scored with beautiful body shots and looked unphased by anything Bernath landed.

Towards the end of the session, he hurt the Hungarian twice, unloaded with a razor-sharp flurry and then floored him with a straight left just before the bell.

After scoring another count from a body shot in Round 2, Leighton ripped in uppercuts and body punches until the referee called a halt.

William, the eldest of the three brothers, boxed in a disciplined style in the first round against tough Nicaraguan Engel Gomez.

But once he hurt Gomez in the second round, there was no stopping William as he floored his opponent, then piled on the pressure when he beat the count until the referee jumped in.

All three Birchall brothers had outstanding amateur careers and are now promoted at professional level by the legendary Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions.

Warren said afterwards: "I want to see them back out again soon, I'm very proud of them, they did extremely well."

Nelson is undefeated in seven bouts as a professional.
