Dave Chisnall wins European Darts Open

Dave Chisnall celebrates his European Darts Open win

Morecambe's Dave Chisnall has beaten Ross Smith to become the European Darts Open Champion.

Chisnall triumphed 8-6 in the final in Leverkusen, Germany on Sunday to lift his seventh European tour title and his first in 2024.

'Chizzy' had earlier beaten Luke Woodhouse in a deciding leg and Kevin Doets 6-4 in the last 16, then came back from 3-1 and 5-3 down to edge out Ryan Searle 6-5, then trounced the in-form Australian Damon Heta 7-1 in the semi-finals.

Chizzy's previous European tour wins came in the German Darts Championship (2013), Danish Darts Open (2019) the Belgian Open (2022) and then three wins last year at the Dutch Darts Championship, Hungarian Darts Trophy and Baltic Sea Darts Open.

His win came after landing a brilliant 132 checkout to move 7-6 ahead of Smith, before checking out on two darts on 100 to claim the crown.

“This means everything,” said Chisnall after winning the £30,000 top prize.

“I think the 132 was the match-winner to be fair. We weren’t at our best in the final, but I’m really, really good friends with Ross.

“There could only be one winner and I’m glad it was me, but I love that guy to bits, and we’ve both had a great weekend.”
