Defender Oscar Threlkeld joins Morecambe on short-term deal

Defender Oscar Threlkeld has signed a short-term deal with Morecambe until January 2024, following an extended time of training with the club.

The 29-year-old boasts a wealth of Sky Bet League Two experience with more than 130 games under his belt at this level.

Beginning his career at Bolton Wanderers, Threlkeld moved to Plymouth Argyle in 2016 where he won automatic promotion as League Two runners up in his first season. Two years later, he made a permanent switch to SK Beveren.

A loan move back to Home Park followed before joining Salford City permanently in July 2019. During his time at the Peninsula Stadium, he was part of the team which won the 2019/20 EFL Trophy.

Stints with Bradford City and Oldham Athletic respectively followed before landing with the Shrimps in the summer.

While his predominant position is right-back, Threlkeld has plenty of experience at centre-back as well as in a more defensive-midfield role.

After putting pen to paper, Threlkeld spoke of his gratitude and excitement, saying: "I've been with the club for a couple of months with the staff allowing me to come in to do some rehab.

"It's taken a couple of months to get back to full fitness, I've worked hard, and I've been lucky enough to given the chance to sign a contract.

"I know the lads now, they've welcomed me with open arms and it's going to be easy for me to know what to do when I get on the pitch, I know what each individual person will bring.

"I'm very excited to get involved, it's been a tough year or so obviously not being able to play, but I'm raring to get back on the pitch to help the lads get three points.

"I'll give 100% all the time, I've got experience in League Two; as long as we get the three points, the team plays well and the fans are happy, I'll be more than happy."
