INTERVIEW: Isaac Lowe ready for "career-best performance" on Fury-Usyk 2 bill then wants fight in Morecambe

Isaac Lowe

Morecambe fighter Isaac Lowe says there's now enough local talent to put on a big professional boxing show in the town.

'The Westgate Warrior' was speaking ahead of his bout with Lee McGregor this Saturday, during a visit to the Beyond Radio studio.

The former Commonwealth champion, close friend and training partner of Tyson Fury, has a long-held ambition to fight at Morecambe Football Club.

And should the opportunity arise in future, Lowe would love to fight alongside other top local professionals on a big boxing card in his home town - ideally at the football stadium.

The Lancaster and Morecambe area currently has the highest number of professional boxers than at any other time in its history.

Aside from former world heavyweight champion Fury and Isaac, there is new Central Area Super Lightweight Champion Reece MacMillan, the Birchall brothers Nelson, Leighton and William, Tyson's cousin Walter, light heavyweight Owen 'The Captain' Kirk, newly-turned pro Troy Gallagher and Niall 'The Style' Fielding all in the paid ranks.

"After this fight, and please God everything goes well on Saturday, it's got to be a must," said Lowe.

"I've conquered everything that I wanted to do in my boxing career and that's the one thing that's missing off that list.

"There is enough talent in Morecambe, around the area to put a full show on.

"The fans would come out in their numbers and it would be good for the community. Let's do it."

Lowe has a professional record of 25 wins and three draws in 30 pro fights, with his only defeats coming to two men who went on to become world champions - Luis Alberto Lopez and Nick Ball.

Currently on a winning streak of four, Isaac was due to fight McGregor, who has 14 wins in 16 fights, in late 2023 but the Scot pulled out through injury.

"There's needle there, he thinks he's better than me, I think I'm better than him, and now it's on," said Isaac.

"I've been training for nearly 11 weeks on home soil, I've had some fantastic sparring, had loads of rounds, everything has generally gone well and I'm in the shape of my life.

"I've given it absolutely everything in training and I'm ready to perform now, a career-best performance."

The Lowe-McGregor fight will be on the same bill as Fury's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk for the unified world heavyweight title.

This will be a huge occasion, similar to the first Fury-Usyk encounter in May, when Lowe defeated Hasibullah Ahmadi on the undercard.

'The Gypsy King' suffered his first professional loss that day to the Ukrainian, via narrow split decision, and will be looking to avenge the loss this Saturday.

Lowe, who has been by Fury's side for some of the biggest nights of his career, believes his friend can turn the tables on Usyk.

"Tyson's got a massive fight on his shoulders and he's fully focussed on it.

"It was a close fight (in May). It's what you like. I think up to Round 7 or 8, Tyson was absolutely smoking it. In Round 6 if he'd put the gas on a bit more, he could have got Usyk out of there. He was badly hurt.

"But Usyk got himself back into the fight. I do think Tyson won. But some people might think Usyk won, or it could have been draw.

"I expect it to be Round 13. Both guys know each other now. They know each other's weaknesses, strengths, and power. I'm looking forward to it."

Isaac Lowe vs Lee McGregor and Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 take place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this Saturday night, December 21.
