Lancaster and Morecambe runners enjoy long distance results to be proud of

LMAC runners at the Abbeystead four mile Supper Run on May 21

From marathons and half marathons to 5Ks and birthday celebrations, it’s been a busy month for members of a local athletics club.

Here are the results from Lancaster & Morecambe Athletics Club in the month of May.

Firstly, the 3-1-5 Health and Fitness Club celebrated its 11th birthday on May 19 with a 10K run, which led to huge success for a LMAC runner.

John Brassington finished first overall in the race, completing it with a time of 38 minutes and 22 seconds.

Brassington often finishes high up in the standings of any race he does, finishing third in the club’s annual Festive 4K in December.

He has a family who are extremely keen runners - wife Sally and sons Ben and James also often take part in local runs.

Grzegorz Niewiadomski also celebrated 3-1-5’s birthday by taking part in their 5K birthday run, finishing second with a time of 16.29.

John Brassington also ran in the Morecambe Half Marathon earlier in the month (May 5).

He finished with a time of 1.23.23, while fellow LMAC runner Konstantinos Georgalos completed it in 1.33.00.

In another long distance result to be proud of, Mark Holgate completed the Great Manchester Half Marathon in 1.19.03 on May 26, finishing 91st out of the thousands taking part.

On the first of the month, Mark and Elaine Simmill ran the Kendal 10K in times of 52.13 and 1.02.28 respectively.

The club’s own 5K event - the Power of 5K, which is held once every eight weeks - took place on May 3.

It is run on a flat track - the Salt Ayre Circuit - on a weekday evening.

The run consists of 3 laps of the circuit and has no tight corners or road crossings making it ideal for anybody who wants to give it a go.

The next Power to 5K will be on June 28 at 7pm - more information can be found on the club website.

Here are the results of May 3’s outing:

Luke Davis 16.51

Mark Holgate 16.52
