It was another wet and windy day at Giant Axe as Workington faced Lancaster City in the Northern Premier League.
Lewis Mansell saw a header from a Marcus Cusani cross deflected behind for a corner on 12 minutes. As Lancaster continued to press and Workington struggled to advance from their final third it would be another 10 minutes before the next real chance.
Lewis Coulton, starting at left ning back broke into the Reds’ box, but his shot was saved by Alex Mitchell.
Harrison Beeden tried the spectacular with a bicycle kick on 29 minutes but it looped over and on 32 minutes Aaron Bennett sent a free kick into the box, it landed at the feet of Marcus Cusani who under pressure from an on rushing goalkeeper, saw his effort go over the bar.
But, it would not be much longer before Lancaster City took the lead.
Neat play on the right hand side between Aaron Bennett and Charlie Bailey saw the ball eventually fall at the feet of Christian Sloan who placed his shot low and hard into the bottom corner.
As the second half began Workington were on the front foot, forcing debutant Aidan Dowling into a save from a corner on 52 minutes, and Steven Rigg then failed to convert on 56 minutes.
The best chance in the second half for Lancaster City came on 63 minutes. Brayden Shaw and Marcus Cusani combined down the left hand side and the ball fell for Charlie Bailey, but his effort was off target.
Then, on 72 minutes, it was level again. Josh Galloway dribbled with the ball from the halfway line and his defence splitting pass found Steven Rigg on the back post who scored for his 16th goal of the season.
Late on chances for David Symington for the visitors and a near post header by Dom Lawson could not seal the points as is quite often in this fixture, the points were shared.
Next up the Dolly Blues is a trip to the SFC Stadium at Irongate to take on Bamber Bridge.
