Morecambe finally earned their first home League Two victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium on New Year's Day.
It was Derek Adams’ men’s first league victory at home since the Shrimps beat Barrow on Easter Monday, back on April 1st last year.
Harvey Saunders nearly opened the scoring for the visitors inside the first minute with a low strike across goal after finding space down the right which Harry Burgoyne did well to keep out/
Burgoyne was called upon again on 15 minutes, to deny Morris's left-footed strike from the left before a Tranmere defender blocked Gwion Edwards' strike from close range.
Yann Songo’o headed over from close range for the hosts, before a big chance for the visitors went begging midway through the half, as Sol Solomon found himself one-on-one but tried a chipped effort which floated onto the roof of the net.
Chances continued to fall the way of both sides and for the Shrimps, Callum Jones came close to breaking the deadlock on 42 minutes after skipping through the Tranmere defence, though McGee was equal to his fierce near post drive.
Six minutes into the second half, Ben Tollitt did well to dispossess Jordan Turnbull but his shot from a narrow angle was saved by McGee.
Saunders again was presented with a golden chance later in the half. The cross came in from the right and touched on into the path of Rovers' number 19 who blasted well over from 10 yards.
The deadlock was eventually broken on 72 minutes, with a fine Morecameb goal.
A corner was worked back to Tom White, who slipped in Marcus Dackers on the left side of the penalty area. His curling cross was met by a crashing header from Songo’o from close range.
Dackers nearly turned from provider to scorer eight minutes later after latching onto an Adam Lewis through ball, but after finding the back of the net, but it was ruled out for offside.
The Shrimps didn't have to wait long for a second however as six minutes from time the points were sealed.
An Adam Lewis free kick led to a scramble in the area, with the ball falling kindly for Jamie Stott, who smashed home into the roof of the net from close range.
