Morecambe slip further into relegation trouble after MK Dons defeat

Morecambe are four points from League Two safety after a 2-1 defeat at Stadium MK. 

The hosts had a great chance to open the scoring after just six minutes, as Alex Gilbey was fed the ball in the box, but Harry Burgoyne stood tall to block the effort.

Minutes later, Callum Cooke was slipped in on the edge of the MK penalty area, but his fierce drive was well saved low to his right by Connal Trueman. 

As the half wore on, and after some patient build-up play, MK worked the ball well down the right before Luke Offord's pull back found Dan Orsi who struck into the side-netting, before Orsi again forced Burgoyne into action at full stretch away to his left hand side. 

With 10 minutes of the half to play, the Shrimps were awarded a penalty after Trueman tripped Lee Angol after he was played through by Callum Cooke.

From the spot, up stepped Angol who sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to open the scoring.

The lead would last just five minutes though as Dan Crowley, playing against his former club, delivered a pin point free kick into the box which was headed powerfully home by Luke Offord.

The hosts enjoyed plenty of possession in the second half and were rewarded with taking the lead 19 minutes into the second half, after Burgoyne's initial save fell into the path of Orsi who reacted quickest to the rebound and slotted home.

In search of an equaliser, sub Jordan Slew found Adam Lewis on the left, and his teasing ball across the six yard box couldn’t be converted at the back post by Ben Tollitt, with a MK defender just getting in front of the Shrimps forward to clear for a corner.

In stoppage time Slew headed over the bar, in what would prove to be the last chance for the visitors to get back on level terms.
