The home side produced an early chance in three minutes as Reece James' free kick found Axel Disasi in the box, he rose highest but couldn't keep the header down.

At the other end, Ben Tollitt came up with the first opportunity of the afternoon for the Shrimps after cutting inside and striking straight at Filip Jorgensen.

The Morecambe defence had to be on hand to deal with a Joao Felix strike from the edge of the box which they were through Rhys Williams whose block from the edge of the box resulted in the first corner of the game. From then, it was Felix again who tried his luck with a volley but the ball flew well over Harry Burgoyne's crossbar.

Adarabioyo came close on 14 minutes after meeting a corner with his head, though the ball deflected back off the crossbar and away to safety.

On 16 minutes, the Blues were awarded a penalty after the referee judged Yann Songo'o to have handled it in the box. Up stepped Nkunku who was denied by an excellent Burgoyne save down to his right.

At the midway stage of the first half, Marc Guiu timed his run to perfection and latched onto a through ball; the angle was against him and his shot could only find the side-netting.

Burgoyne again came to the rescue on 28 minutes. A full stretch diving save down to his right denied Joao Felix the opener.

Six minutes later, Marcus Dackers found himself in space down the left. He cut inside and shot across goal but it lacked the power to truly test Jorgensen.

The deadlock was broken with a stroke of luck for Chelsea on 39 minutes. Adarabioyo's strike from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection and nestled in the back of the net.

Four minutes into the second half, Dackers played the ball to Tollitt down the right, his resulting cross drifted across goal and had Jorgensen worried for a second, but sailed over.

Moments later, Nkunku doubled Chelsea's advantage. Burgoyne reacted well to deny Renato Veiga's powerful strike initially, but Nkunku reacted quickest and slotted home the rebound.

Just before the hour mark, a pass out wide was pounced on by substitute Jordan Slew. He advanced forward down the wing and beat his man before firing straight at the goalkeeper.

Then, the Chelsea supporters behind the goal thought they'd scored a third through Marc Cucurella, only to realise his strike struck the side netting.

20 minutes from time, Adarabioyo netted his second and Chelsea's third of the afternoon with a dipping strike into the bottom corner.

Just as the Shrimps came close to pulling one back following a dangerous Adam Lewis cross which Jorgensen couldn't keep hold of, the Blues launched a lethal counter attack resulting in Joao Felix adding a fourth with a low strike from the edge of the box.

Three minutes later, Joao Felix netted again after beating his man with some tricky footwork and bending the ball into the far corner.

The Chelsea defence were then forced to clear off the line to deny Harvey Macadam a consolation after he beat Jorgensen to the ball with his head.

Moments before the 90, Hallam Hope found himself through on goal, though his eventual strike after carrying the ball forward and into the box was straight at the 'keeper.
