Points shared at Giant Axe after second half comeback

An excellent second half display saw Lancaster City come from two goals down to earn a point against Ashton United at Giant Axe.

It was Lancaster City who had the first chance on goal after two minutes, Dom Lawson volleying a Christian Sloan cross just over the bar.

Just a minute later Darius Osei had his first effort on goal, where he pulled his shot from 20 yards wide of the post.

He would not have to wait long to be involved in the opener. Just four minutes later Osei squared the ball in the box for his strike partner Jason Gilchrist to score.

The next chance saw the visitors extend their lead.

Nathan Lowe dribbled his way through the Dolly Blue defence and his low shot beat McClenaghan to make it 2-0 before the quarter of an hour mark.

It looked like it would be a long afternoon for the Dollies as Louis White fired just over from another Osei set up just a couple of minutes later, but a tactical change saw the Dollies withstand more pressure and start to get a foothold into the game.

The second half started and the Dollies were fastest out the blocks, with Dom Lawson testing the hands of Jordan Eastham from a header on 47 minutes and Lewis Mansell with a 25 yard low shot which Eastham needed to save.

Substitute Lewis Coulton was then played in by Charlie Bailey and saw his effort go just wide, before the hosts halved the deficit.

Lewis Mansell battled well in the area, and the ball landed to Lawson who fired home.

Just a minute later a Charlie Bailey header looked destined to be the equaliser but was thwarted by the outstretched hand of Jordan Eastham, before the equaliser came on 79 minutes.

Dylan Thompson whipped in a cross and Lewis Mansell's bullet header whistled passed Eastham to level the game up.

Lancaster City complete a trio of home games next Saturday, October 26, as Hyde United are visiting Giant Axe.
