The first real chance of the game came the way of the Shrimps on 13 minutes.
Adam Lewis squared the ball across the face of the six yard box, but Marcus Dackers couldn’t hit the target from just a few yards out.
In the 16th minute, the Shrimps defence were called into action as Jayden Stockley saw his header deflected over the bar following a cross from Conor Grant.
As the half wore on, Port Vale had the ball in the back of the net through Ruari Paton but it was quickly ruled out by the referee due to a push in the back of David Tutonda..
Chances remained at a premium for both sides in the second half.
Among the opportunities falling the way of the hosts, Ben Tollitt saw a low drive deflected away for a corner, while in the 80th minute Jamie Stott had the ball in the back of the net with a great close-range finish, before the assistant referee raised his flag to rule the goal out for offside.
Then came the sucker punch goal for the visitors.
Seven minutes from time, the Valiants won a corner on the right. An inswinger towards the edge of the six yard box wasn’t dealt with Stockley flicked the ball to Ethan Chislett, who bundled home from close range at the back post.
The Shrimps travel to Swindon Town next Saturday (November 23rd).
