Report, highlights & reaction – Swindon Town 2-3 Morecambe

Morecambe moved off the bottom of the League Two table after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Swindon at the County Ground.

In driving rain and strong winds throughout the game, it was the Shrimps who started stronger and were ahead inside six minutes.

Adam Lewis played our third corner in quick succession short to Luke Hendrie, and his cross found the Jamie Stott who netted his second goal of the season with a diving header.

On 14 minutes, the advantage was doubled. Adam Lewis' flighted a free kick to the back post, where an unmarked Ben Tollitt brought it under control and smashed the ball beyond Jack Bycroft for his seventh of the season.

Jordan Slew’s powerful strike was kept out by Bycroft, who also turned away a Callum Jones long range effort, while the Robins halved the deficit on 32 minutes.

A free kick was sent into the box and was flicked on before Aaron Drinan's lifted the ball over Burgoyne and into the back of the net, to score with his first touch since coming off the bench.

Grant Hall headed a corner over the bar as the Shrimps went in to the half time break a goal to the good.

Four minutes into the second half, the Robins were level through former Morecambe defender Ryan Delaney.

George Cox's long throw wasn’t cleared and Delaney found the bottom corner from 15 yards.

The game became a battle of who could cope with the worsening conditions, with Morecambe playing against a strong gusty wind throughout the second half.

But there was to be one last twist in the match, coming courtesy of substitute Hallam Hope.

With 12 minutes to play, Macadam did well to retain possession on the right hand touchline, he fed the ball back to Hendrie, who played a sumptuous through ball perfectly into the path of Hope, who raced clear to smash the ball past Bycroft for what proved to be a vital winning goal for Derek Adams’ men.
