Shrimps finally secure first League Two win of season in Morecambe Bay derby

Morecambe finally secured their first win of the League Two season after a 1-0 victory over Barrow at Holker Street.

Ben Tollitt scored his fourth goal in three games inside the last ten minutes to earn the points for Derek Adams’ men.

Rory Feely planted a header wide for the hosts, while Ben Tollitt tried a speculative 40 yard effort for the Shrimps, as both sides battled against strong winds.

Katia Kouyate’s looping header was then caught by Moore, before Marcus Dackers had a great chance to open the scoring on 20 minutes, but could only divert a free header wide from six yards out after a teasing Luke Hendrie cross.

Ben Jackson’s cross-shot from outside the box nearly crept into the top-right corner with assistance from the wind, but it flew inches wide as the first half draw to a close all square.

Ten minutes after the restart, Morecambe had another great chance to take the lead. Tom White’s through ball found Dackers, who raced through on goal, only to be denied be Wyll Stanway who blocked his effort with his legs.

Then an Adam Lewis cross was headed down by Dackers into the path of Hallam Hope, who saw his effort clear the crossbar, while at the other end Stuart Moore did well to deal with a swirling Kian Spence effort from distance.

The winner came from a fine move on 82 minutes.

Callum Jones fed the ball to Ben Tollitt, who switched it out to the left hand side. Adam Lewis played an inch perfect low cross into the area that was smashed home from close range by Tollitt for his fifth goal of the season.

Barrow substitute Andy Dallas came close to an equaliser soon after with an effort from the edge of the box which hit the post before the Shrimps cleared the danger.
