The annual walkabout theatre show in Lancaster will bring a 1960s twist to the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland - the cast and crew have revealed.
The show is set to open this Friday (July 19) in Williamson Park, treating audiences to a brand new adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic.
The audience will follow the action around the park from location to location, enjoying iconic scenes including the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and the Queen of Hearts' palace aka the Ashton Memorial!
In an exclusive chat with Beyond Radio, the cast and crew revealed that the show includes a thrilling croquet match with remote controlled hedgehogs, the Jabberwocky, the Dormouse as Elvis Presley, and a 1960s feel.
LISTEN to our interview with director Kirstie Davis, composer and musical director Steven Markwick, and cast members Eve Pereira, Helen Longworth (pictured below as the Queen of Hearts), Katie Ball, Ross Telfer and Kira Hayes.
"'Wonderland' is 60s in our world," said director Kirstie Davis.
"It's about the outdoor adventure. I think the park really suits it, we know all those characters, so to see them in the park will be lovely. The story and the park go very well together."
Steve Markwick, musical director and composer, said: "Once we decided the design feel was a 60s vibe that gave me quite a few clues as to the songs.
"We can't wait to put it all together."
The full cast includes Eve Pereira as Alice, Helen Longworth (the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat), Katie Ball (Mad Hatter, Tweedledum), Ross Telfer (the Dormouse, the Caterpillar), Kira Hayes (the Hare, Tweedledee) and Rebecca Phythian (the White Rabbit).
Expect 'marvellous madness' when Alice in Wonderland comes to Williamson Park, presented by The Dukes theatre, from July 19 to August 25.
